X Factor hopeful Laura White has become the fifth contestant to be booted off the show.
In a sing-off against Ruth Lorenzo, the 21-year-old performed Somewhere Over The Rainbow which she dedicated to her grandfather.
But White's mentor Cheryl Cole was the only judge who voted to keep her in the competition, with Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell all electing to save Lorenzo.
Earlier this week Minogue tipped White, from Atherton in Lancashire, to win this year's X Factor.
Before he gave the contestants his verdict, Cowell said: "First of all you were not the worst two singers tonight so I don't know what went wrong tonight it was a joke. Both of you sang your hearts out. Whatever I say is going to be unpopular."
Neither White nor Cole were able to say anything when the result was announced.
Mariah Carey took to the stage to sing Hero with the X Factor contestants, whose version of the song shot to number one in the charts last Sunday.
After her performance Carey said: "I did think that they were all shining today because it takes a lot to get up here and do this."
And Cowell complemented the singer on her performance: "I love Mariah. Mariah very simply is the biggest star in the world. I don't think Mariah gets enough credit either for being a great song writer."
Diana Vickers was too ill to take part in the Mariah Carey-themed show this week.
