Nicole Kidman 'to star as transsexual'

lunes, 10 de noviembre de 2008 |

Actress Nicole Kidman is to play a transsexual artist in film The Danish Girl, it has been reported.

She will play Einar Wegener, a male artist who underwent groundbreaking surgery to become a woman in 1931, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The trade magazine said that Charlize Theron is expected to play Wegener's spouse in the film, which will also be produced by Kidman.

It said pre-production had begun on the film but no release date had been set.

Model stand-in

The Hollywood Reporter said The Danish Girl will be based on the 2000 novel of the same name, by David Ebershoff, that tells a fictionalised tale of Einar and Greta Wegener.

It tells the story of how Wegener stood in for a female model that his wife was set to paint.

When the portraits became popular, Greta Wegener encouraged her husband to permanently adopt the female identity, leading to the operation that threatened their love and shocked the world.

Kidman, who gave birth to a baby daughter in July with husband Keith Urban, was last seen on the big screen in 2007 in The Golden Compass.

Her new film, Australia, opens in the UK on 26 December

Kidman says she was only to be 'seen, not heard' when married to Cruise

jueves, 6 de noviembre de 2008 |

Nicole Kidman has confessed that she felt she didn't exist in her own right and was 'not heard' when she was married to Tom Cruise.

The UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, who's now married to country star Keith Urban, revealed that it was following their split in 2001 that she was acknowledged for who she is - rather than being looked upon as an extended version of Cruise.

The 41-year-old, who separated from the actor just after their 10th wedding anniversary, told the December issue of America's Glamour magazine that she felt like a stifled wife.

"I felt I became a star only by association. I felt it was my job to put on a beautiful dress and be seen and not heard," Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

The Oscar-winner, who established herself as an actress within two years from her divorce, admits that she was given her due credit and prospered in her career only after the split.

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise are Overpaid

jueves, 11 de septiembre de 2008 |

In the last few years, Nicole Kidman has starred in a number of movies that underperformed at the box office, but last year's disappointing grosses for The Interpreter, The Golden Compass and even Margot at the Wedding likely contributed to her being named the least bankable actor in Hollywood by Forbes magazine. Apparently, given her exorbitant asking price, Forbes estimates her movies only earn, on average, as much from ticket sales as she earns for appearing in them. This is a major drop compared to last year, when Kidman's films were estimated to gross $8 for every $1 she's paid.

After Kidman, Forbes names Jennifer Garner, whose '07 films The Kingdom and Catch and Release did poorly enough that the runaway success of Juno couldn't help her ranking. On average her films grossed $3.60 for every $1 she took home. In third place, not surprisingly, is Kidman's ex, Tom Cruise, who bombed big time with Lions for Lambs last year. Others making the list of most overpaid actors include Nicolas Cage, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Jim Carrey, Cate Blanchett and Will Ferrell. Meanwhile, Russell Crowe, who topped the list last year, is considered more fairly paid this year thanks to the success of American Gangster.

Such fluctuations in actors' bankability only continues the debate regarding the importance of movie stars these days. Certainly all the names on Forbes' list are big names who occasionally headline blockbuster hits, but are they actually significant to moviegoers' attraction to a movie? Apparently not.

Nicole Kidman in plea to media over baby

jueves, 7 de agosto de 2008 |

Actress Nicole Kidman has called on the media in her hometown of Sydney to give her "a little space" during her visit there with her baby daughter.

She told radio station 2Day FM she and husband Keith Urban needed to be left alone "so we can walk around Sydney and show the baby our town".

Urban told the station photographers should not get "right in her face or in our faces because it's scary for her".

Baby Sunday Rose was born in Nashville, Tennessee, a month ago.

Unlike other celebrities, no photographs of Sunday have been released and Urban said they had no intention of selling any.

"I get the interest there is. But at the same time it's our little girl," Urban said.

'Awesome'

"Sometimes when people come right up in your face you think, 'Good God, would you do that to anybody else's child?'"

The singer, who said he was speaking from the kitchen at the couple's home, said being a new dad was an "awesome" feeling that only other fathers could understand.

"Anybody out there who's got kids [knows] it's just a certain kind of feeling that you can only experience when you do it," he said.

"She's just awesome, cute little thing. I'm not looking forward to having to go on tour and having to leave."

Kidman said she was looking forward to introducing her daughter, who looked like Urban with "a bit of a reddish tint" in her hair, to the rest of her Australian family.

Australian media reported Kidman and Urban have used using several decoy cars to try to avoid photographers whilst around their home on Sydney Harbour.

Nicole Kidman reveals that she is pregnant

sábado, 29 de diciembre de 2007 |

Nicole Kidman, the Oscar-winning star of The Hours and Moulin Rouge, is expecting a baby, it has been disclosed.

The actress, 40, and Keith Urban, her husband of 18 months, reportedly broke the news to their families over the Christmas period.

The baby, whose expected arrival date has not been announced, would be Kidman's first by birth, though the actress, who is winning rave reviews for her role as the evil Mrs Coulter in The Golden Compass, adopted two children during her first marriage to fellow Hollywood star Tom Cruise.

Kidman, who has refused to discuss her break up from Cruise in any depth, recently revealed she had suffered an ectopic pregnancy and a miscarriage during their 10-year marriage.

Life with Urban, 40, a New Zealand-born country and western singer, has also not been without its difficulties.

The singer checked himself into rehab for alcohol abuse less than four months after the wedding. Kidman admits that it has put a strain on the relationship but says the problems are now under control.

The Australian actress, who lives in Sydney, has been gradually winding down her commitments to spend more time with Urban and her adopted children Isabella, 14, and Conor, 12.

Kidman wins damages over perfume slur

viernes, 14 de diciembre de 2007 |

Nicole Kidman won an apology and substantial libel damages from the Daily Telegraph on Friday over an article that falsely alleged the face of Chanel No 5 perfume had promoted a rival brand.

The Australian actress had sued the Telegraph over the story last month which said she had been openly promoting her "favourite perfume", Jo Malone, while in London for the premiere of her latest film "The Golden Compass".

Her lawyer John Kelly told London's High Court the article suggested she had acted in an "unprofessional and disloyal manner" by brazenly snubbing Chanel, and indicating she could not be trusted to honour her contractual obligations.

"The article also falsely claimed that despite having signed a multi-million pound contract with Chanel, the claimant was openly promoting a competitor's product and 'kept dabbing the Jo Malone perfume on whenever she had a moment'," Kelly said.

Kelly said the publishers of the Telegraph accepted that the allegations were untrue, and had established that the source of the article had invented the story.

"These allegations were not put to the claimant or her representatives prior to publication. Had the defendant done so it would have been informed of their utter falsity," he added.

The Telegraph's lawyer David Price said the paper sincerely apologised for the distress and embarrassment the story had caused.

"It accepts that the allegations are untrue and ought never to have been published," he told the court.

Kelly said Kidman intended to donate her damages to UNIFEM, the United Nations Development Fund for Women for which she acts as a goodwill ambassador.

Paparazzo ‘pursued’ Kidman

lunes, 19 de noviembre de 2007 |

Kidman feared for her life on at least two occasions, in which Fawcett pursued her across her hometown.

Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman told a Sydney Court that she and her husband Urban were followed by paparazzo Jamie Fawcett during their honeymoon and last year’s Christmas.

Kidman told the court of being "really, really scared" when she was pursued by a local paparazzo while being driven around Sydney, news.co.au quoted.

She said her driver, John Manning, told her they were being followed by photographer Jamie Fawcett and another car.

"He said that they were driving crazy and that they had run red lights and jumped the median strip," the website quoted her saying to the court.

Fairfax media, publisher the Sun-Herald newspaper, which is contesting a NSW Supreme Court finding that a January 2005 article defamed Fawcett had asked the actress to present evidence against the photographer.

Her father, Dr Antony Kidman, and her publicist Wendy Day, have told the court previously that Kidman feared for her life on at least two occasions, in which Fawcett pursued her across her hometown.
