Gibson's wife files for divorce

martes, 14 de abril de 2009 |

Actor Mel Gibson's wife has filed for divorce after 28 years of marriage citing irreconcilable differences.

Robyn Gibson is seeking a share of the money and assets the Braveheart star, 53, has earned during his career.

As it is thought no prenuptial deal was signed, Robyn could receive half of the star's reported $640m (£432m) wealth under Californian law.

The couple, who were married in June 1980, have seven children together but only one is under 18.

Details of how the couple's assets will be divided were not revealed in the papers filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Mrs Gibson is also seeking jewellery, earnings and assets she accrued after the couple separated and wants her husband to make support payments and to meet her lawyer's costs.

In addition, she has requested joint custody of their youngest son, Tom, aged 10.

Privacy call

The actor filed a response to the divorce saying the two had been separated since 26 August 2006.

Legal documents show he does not want to make support payments and wants lawyer's fees be paid out of the couple's joint property.

In a joint statement, the couple said: "Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so."

Born in the US and raised in Australia, Mel Gibson rose to fame after starring in the 1979 film Mad Max.

He went on to star in hit films Lethal Weapon and Braveheart, which won him best director and best picture Oscars.

The star has adopted a lower public profile since his controversial 2004 film The Passion of the Christ and his arrest in July 2006 for drink-driving.

Gibson pleaded no contest to the charge and was given three years' probation.

Britney Spears stays at Mel Gibson´s beach house

sábado, 17 de mayo de 2008 |

Mel Gibson and troubled pop star Britney Spears are on holiday at the actor's Costa Rica beach house.

Costa Rica's Channel 7 showed images of Spears, 26, driving an all-terrain vehicle with an unidentified woman and splashing in the ocean on the country's Pacific coast.

Channel 7 says Spears, her father, Gibson and Gibson's wife arrived on Thursday in the capital San Jose and then took a private plane to the country's Pacific coast where Gibson has a house.

Gibson has visited Costa Rica several times and last year bought a house in Guanacaste, in north-eastern Costa Rica.

Both Spears and Gibson lived in the same Malibu, California neighbourhood.

Britney Spears & Mel Gibson Secret Meeting

domingo, 16 de marzo de 2008 |

Britney Spears dined with Mel Gibson Saturday. The singer - who will appear on the March 24 episode of CBS' How I Met Your Mother - and the Braveheart actor had a business meeting at Romanov Russian Restaurant & Lounge in Studio City, California over the weekend.

Spears has caused quite the stir on the set of the sitcom and it has gotten so out of hand that those working on the show are even forced to wear wristbands on the set. The mix up even kept one time Doogie Howser star Neil Patrick Harris waiting to get into the set of his own sitcom.

But Mel doesn't need "no stinking wristband" to see Britney, at least not at the restaurant. Us Weekly Magazine has the video here and reports that the former neighbors had what was billed as a secret meeting this weekend. But as with everything else in Britney's life, it was hardly a secret as the cameras were there and they were rolling.

The report also reminds that last year, Gibson's wife, Robyn, was overheard complaining about the pop star around the time of the Malibu blazes, The New York Observer reported. "[Robyn] was like, ‘It’s so annoying that people are more concerned about if Britney Spears' house was burnt than their own well-being,’” the paper quoted a source as saying.
