The popular reality TV show Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites came to an end after 39 days of game-ending injuries, blindsides and surprises.

Parvati Shallow, a 25-year-old pugilist and nonprofit organizer was declared winner and was awarded the prize of $1 million by show host Jeff Probst. This was the show’s first ever all-female final tour.

The game was announced as being the show’s best season in terms of game play and also because of the repeated shocking turns of events.

In the final, she was joined by Amanda Kimmel, from Survivor: China and Cirie Fields from Survivor: Panama. Fields was eliminated after the immunity challenge and Kimmel battled it out with Shallow for the number one spot. Shallow received five votes over Kimmel’s three.

"The fact that it's a final two and not a final three was almost poetic," Fields said when she learned about the finale's twist, as quoted by the Associated Press. She also added, "I mean, we've been blindsiding people left and right, and essentially we got blindsided. We thought we had it made. I guess what goes around, comes around."

"I couldn't have done it without the girls that I was with," Shallow said during the finale, as quoted by the AP.

The show ended with an announcement made by host Jeff Probst about next year’s plans, when the show’s 17th season will return to Africa for the Survivor: Gabon – Earth’s Last Eden. The show will feature 18 contestants living amongst wildlife.
