Hannah Montana Concert Sells Out In Minutes

It took just 12 minutes for Ticketmaster to sell all 11,700 tickets to the Hannah Montana Concert on January 7th at the Verizon Center. That's faster than tickets for Bruce Springsteen, Justin Timberlake, or The Police.

"She's hotter than 'The Boss.' That's pretty amazing," Sheila Francis, Public Relations Director of the Verizon Center, tells 9NEWS NOW.

Tickets are selling like hotcakes nationwide, in less than four minutes in some cities on Miley's 54 stop tour.

Wendy Marco of Leesburg got online 15 minutes after tickets went on sale here September 29th and Ticketmaster was already sold out. Within minutes some of those tickets were already being offered on broker websites, some for more than a $1,600.

"A $66 ticket for $1,600," Marco said. "I know it happens all the time, but this time it's hurting little kids and I don't think it's fair."

It may not be fair, but it is legal.

"DC law says you cannot sell tickets for higher than face value in a public place, and clearly online is not a public place so that's how the brokers get around it," Francis says. "We're a Ticketmaster facility and we encourage people not to buy from brokers, because they don't even know if the tickets are valid."

Marco's nine year old daughter will be dressing up as Hannah Montana for Halloween, but she and her five year old sister won't be going to the concert.

"Even if I could pay those prices I won't," Marco says. "I won't contribute to the problem."

The best advice Francis can give is to be in line when the tickets go on sale at the box office, on the phone, and bring a laptop to go online to snap some up.

"Whatever it takes," she says.

But with shows like Hannah Montana, she also says be prepared not to get them too.

Miley Cyrus has a fan base of 15 million and she's only 14.

"It's like the Beatles all over again," according to her tour promoter.
