Miley Cyrus Accused of Racially Insensitive Gesture

The 16-year-old "Hannah Montana" star, Miley Cyrus is under the spotlight again. This time for a photo obtained by TMZ, in which the Disney Channel star is shown sitting on her boyfriend Justin Gaston’s lap surrounded by a group of friends all making a stereotypical gesture by pulling their eyes into a slanted position. The gesture is commonly thought to be offensive to Asian Pacific Americans.

"Not only has Miley Cyrus and the other individuals in the photograph encouraged and legitimized the taunting and mocking of people of Asian descent, she has also insulted her many Asian Pacific American fans," said George Wu, executive director of OCA, an organization that advances the rights of Asian Americans.

The OCA, a group "dedicated to advancing the social, political and economic well-being of Asian Pacific Americans" is fuming at this photo of Miley and pals for using what they have deemed an offensive, stereotypical gesture.

This isn't the first time Cyrus has come under fire for a photo. The "Hannah Montana" star publicly apologized to fans in April after posing semi-topless for a Vanity Fair shoot.

In the meantime, Cyrus is trying to prove she’s a fine responsible teen-ager and showed her devotion to the Earth. She traded in her Porsche, given to her for her 16th birthday, for an enviro-friendly Toyota Prius hybrid. Moreover she currently has three songs moving up the Radio Disney chart from the upcoming soundtrack to the "Hannah Montana Movie": "It's All Right Here", "Let's Do This", and "Let's Get Crazy." "Wake Up America" will be serviced to radio stations soon.
