Channel 4 has begun its search for a replacement for 'Countdown' star Carol Vorderman, who is leaving the show at the end of the year.
According to reports, 47-year-old Vorderman chose to quit the show after she was asked to take a 90% pay cut and given 48 hours to decide whether to say or go.
The show's presenter Des O'Connor is also leaving 'Countdown', with a special show set to mark the two departures.
Vorderman has been appearing on the show for the past 25 years.
Channel 4 has said that her replacement should have "charm and charisma to appeal to viewers" and "excellent numeric and literacy skills".
Shortlisted "maths whizzes" will reportedly attend auditions with 'Countdown' producers and the new recruit will appear on screen in January next year.
Helen Warner, Channel 4 Head of Daytime, said: "We realise that Carol's shoes are extremely difficult ones to fill, as she has done such an amazing job on 'Countdown' over the past 25 years."
