Mickey Rourke Joins "Iron Man II" Villain Cast

Mickey Rourke's "Iron Man II" role has been locked in, according to the latest reports. "The Wrestler" star has now closed a deal to play the Russian villain in the upcoming superhero flick.

According to Variety, the award-winning actor has been confirmed to appear on the film sequel after being offered a better salary. It was rumored that his involvement's uncertainty is due to the lackluster talent fee of $250,000 Marvel Entertainment originally offered him.

Rourke has apparently met with director Jon Favreau and writer Justin Theroux to develop his character, Whiplash, who will be merged with Russian agent Crimson Dynamo.

Marvel still won't confirm casting Rourke.

Also joining the baddies in the film is Scarlett Johansson, who replaces Emily Blunt for the role of Russian superspy Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. "Black Widow." Blunt was originally tapped to play the character but is already involved with her film "Gulliver's Travels."

Robert Downey Jr. will reprise his role as the titular superhero on the screen. "Iron Man II" will be released in May 2010.
