Spitzer case escort knows she hurt wife

The former escort who helped bring down New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer tells People magazine that she is sorriest about the pain felt by his wife.

Ashley Dupre, in an interview in the issue to be published Friday, said that her encounter with the man she knew as "Client No. 9" and "George Fox" was "strictly business." She said she only learned who her client was when she watched him on television announcing his resignation -- and she was only watching because her mother had called about it.

What hit her when she saw Spitzer on television was his wife, Silda.

"I try not to revisit that place too often, but when I think about his speech, I think of her face, her eyes, the hurt," she said.

Dupre was working for the Emperors Club VIP, servicing clients who paid thousands of dollars for her company. She said that she told her mother how she was making a living after the FBI informed her that one of her clients was under investigation.

She said her mother found the news "extremely painful" but did not get mad at her.
