Larry Mendte, a popular newscaster in Philadelphia, is under investigation by the FBI for hacking into the email of former co-worker Alycia Lane, according to reports on Monday.

Mendte, the news anchor for KYW-TV (CBS3) in Philadelphia, is under investigation by the FBI for hacking into hundreds of Lane's private Yahoo email messages. Mendte, anchors the 6pm and 11pm evening broadcasts daily, is currently withheld from CBS 3 broadcasts pending the results of the investigation.

Mendte's home computer was seized, and his employer, CBS3, was instructed by the FBI not to delete any of his company email information. Unauthorized viewing of another's email, like illegally opening mail, is a federal offense.

Lane has been in the news over the past year for various incidents. In May 2007, Lane was the center of national media after she emailed pictures of herself and friends, depicting her in a bikini, to the NFL Network's Rich Eisen via an account that he shared with his wife, Suzy Shuster.

In December 2007, Lane was charged with one felony count of assault on a police officer after assaulting a female police officer in New York City. In January 2008, Lane was fired from KYW-TV.

Mendte is married to Dawn Stensland, who is the 10pm news anchor at WTXF-TV Fox Philadelphia since 2001. Mendte and Stensland have two children together: Michael, born in 2004; and David, born in 2006.
