U.S. Senator’s Debbie Stabenow husband admitted that he used the Internet to arrange a $150 sexual rendezvous with a prostitute at a metropolitan Detroit hotel, authorities said Wednesday.

According to a police report obtained by the Associated Press, Thomas Athans’car was stopped by the police on February 26 at the hotel. The police officers informed the senator’s husband that they were investigating prostitution. Athans admitted he used the Internet to meet the prostitute and then paid her $150 for oral sex at the hotel. No sex charges were brought against Athans, but police officers arrested enews20.com, 20, in the hotel room, on a charge of prostitution. She was arraigned on March 12 and released on $100 bail pending a hearing on April 22.

Department spokesman Lt. Gerry Scherlinck declared that Athans, 46, was helpful and “didn't drop any names or ask for preferential treatment.”

Senator Stabenow, 57, said in an interview for the AP that she would like “folks to know that I'm grateful for their prayers and support and this is a family matter that is very difficult but we are going to work through it…I think it's important to continue to do my job and to focus on people in Michigan who are hurting every day and expect that I'm going to fight for them every day.”

Athans and Stabenow married in February 2003. The senator has two adult children from her previous marriage to Dennis Stabenow. Aithans is an Air Force veteran who worked as an aide in Stabenow's Detroit office. He started the liberal TalkUSA Radio in 2006 after leading programming at Air America.

Last month, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer resigned due to reports he had connections with a prostitution ring. His replacement, David Patterson, began his governorship by admitting extramarital affairs.
