Carry On London Finally Happening?

jueves, 13 de marzo de 2008 |

It looks as though a brand new Carry On film may actually happen, despite spending years in development hell.

The idea for rebooting the saucy franchise has been floating around the British film industry since 2003, as has a script and rumours of a cast linked to the project, including Vinnie Jones, Shane Ritchie and Daniella Westbrook.

Sounds great, doesn't it.

Anyway, the title of this the 32nd Carry On film is believed to still be Carry On London and focuses around a limousine company as it takes celebrities to the Herberts - a British take on the Oscars.

Sounds great, doesn't it.

Well, according to the BBC website the project is one step closer to being filmed and could be released by the end of the year.

Apparently a spokeswoman for the production company has told Auntie that the final script with a "fun storyline" has been signed off, and casting details for the new film are expected to be announced later in the year.

It's surely no coincidence that this news comes just before a party this weekend at Pinewood Studios to celebrate 50 years of Carry On films, which entertained the masses for decades and made stars out of Kenneth Williams, Sid James and Barbara Windsor to name a few.

Some of the problems the troubled production has had recently included the departure in 2004 of EastEnders and Extras star Shaun Williamson from the lead role of chauffeur Dickie Ticker.

"It was such a shame it didn't go ahead as planned because the script was absolutely marvellous - very funny and clever," Williamson's agent had said at the time.

The film's spokeswoman also revealed that sets for the movie were made last year, including a car yard for the limousine company and it is hoped the film will be released by the end of 2008 to coincide with the 50th anniversary celebrations.
