Robert Pattinson: Odor Offender?

viernes, 27 de marzo de 2009 |

You'd think that Robert Pattinson might be embarrassed by reports that his alleged lack of hygiene has his costars gagging, but the actor, who once admitted to Jay Leno that he rarely washes his hair, could also see it as a stinky badge of honor.

"I don't have much of a sense of personal hygiene or styling or anything," said Pattinson, 22.

In a recent GQ story, Pattinson was described as wearing clothes that "smell like he has recently purchased them off the back of someone less fortunate than he."

But the scent is not necessarily all bad: After all, some of Pattinson's most honored Hollywood colleagues have expressed fondness for a certain pungency.

PEOPLE's former Sexiest Man Alive Matthew McConaughey has been known to enjoy going au naturel. In 2005, completing the sentence, "A man should smell like…," he told PEOPLE: "a man. I haven't worn deodorant in 20 years."

Similarly, Viggo Mortensen was said to have gotten so into his less-than-groomed character, warrior Aragorn, in Lord of the Rings that he slept in the woods, according to the Toronto Star. Asked about this, costar Sean Bean told the paper, "Bear in mind, he was very smelly."

But Mortensen's girlfriend at the time didn't notice anything objectionable about the hunk's odor. In 2002 when asked about reports of trouble between them partly attributed to his "less-than-religious devotion to soap and water," Lola Schnabel told the Daily News, "I love his smell!"

So maybe Pattinson is simply being a true actor and staying unkempt for his role as a vampire. "He smells great," costar Kristen Stewart said before Twilight opened in November 2008. "It's kind of an animalist thing that goes on. It went along with the movie, so it was perfect."
