Britney Spears's Twitter account hacked

Thanks to cyber pranksters, thousands of her fans have been informed of a strange alteration to Britney's body. Warning - she may bite.

Thanks to Twitter, people like Britney Spears can send 140-character micro-blogs (or "tweets") to their legions of fans. And thanks to hackers, these fans can be advised that Britney Spears has, um, undergone a rather radical transformation.

That is what allegedly happened yesterday, when Britney Spears's official Twitter account sent out a most peculiar message: "HI Yall! Brit Brit here, just wanted to update you all on the size of my vagina. Its about 4 feet wide with razor sharp teeth."

Within moments, the announcement had spread across the world – to the laptops, desktops and mobile phones of some 14,000 fans subscribed to Britney's tweets. Thousands of her fans learned about her alleged case of vagina dentata, disseminated by SMS, RSS and the plain old internet. The message struck a different note from the singer's usual updates. "Just took the boys to the pumpkin patch!" she boasted in October. "I think all the tiny cars [in Japan] are so cute!" she wrote in December.

It wouldn't have been the first time that Britney – or her representatives – made an unexpected disclosure via Twitter. Last year, a rep called Andrew divulged that the singer is allergic to horses. But a vagina with razor-sharp teeth? Four feet (122cm) wide?

Unsurprisingly, fans called foul. After some press enquiries, Britney Spears's social media director announced that the eyebrow-raising tweet was not some uncanny late-night confession – it was the work of a hacker.

"We did get hacked this morning," a rep called Lauren told Rolling Stone. "We apologise for any offence caused to Britney's fans and Twitter followers ... we never want to offend anyone."

The offending message has now been removed from Spears's Twitter account, and all seems back to normal. "Just heard Brit had a great time in Louisiana," reads the latest tweet. "It was super chill, with lots of working out and spending time with her whole family."
