"The Dark Knight" accepted every trophy it was nominated for at the 35th annual fan-favorite CBS ceremony. Among film honors, "The Dark Knight" was 2008's top film at box offices with global ticket sales of nearly $1 billion, soaring away with five People's Choice Awards on Wednesday. Therefore, it proved itself to be the No. 1 movie of the night. Along with best film and on-screen pairing for stars Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger as Joker, it has been awarded for favorite action movie, superhero for Bale as Batman, and for its cast as well.
The funniest male star turned out to be Adam Sandler, while Will Smith received the awards both for top male action star and best male movie star. Reese Witherspoon was favorite female movie star and Kate Hudson top leading lady among winners in more than 40 categories.

Medical show "House" star Hugh Laurie received a trophy for favorite male TV star and the show was named favorite TV drama; "Two and a Half Men" was named best TV comedy while “The Simpsons” was the top TV animated comedy.

After a tough year during which Christina Applegate struggled to defeat breast cancer, results are finally starting to pay off for her, both personally and professionally. She looked radiant at the ceremony, admitting the fact that she was feeling great. And for her evening to be a complete success, she took the honor of top female TV star for "Samantha Who?"
“Grey's Anatomy” actress Chandra Wilson expressed appreciation for fans of the ABC show, as well as her co-star Katherine Heigl, whose “27 Dresses” won favorite movie comedy. Backstage, she mentioned the fact that the “Grey” story places her character in scenes with the ghost of a former love. "It's so outside of my realm of experience. I've never talked to a ghost before. Or had sex with one."

Other winners were animated "Wall-E" as best family movie and "The Secret Life of Bees" for best independent movie. It was also the winner of best film drama.

Brad Pitt was chosen favorite leading man, Angelina Jolie was favorite female action star and Ellen DeGeneres was awarded for favorite talk show host.

The CBS ceremony was hosted by Queen Latifah and she accepted the favorite drama and independent movie awards alongside her "The Secret Life of Bees" co-star Dakota Fanning.

Newlywed Jewel said she has been working on a children's album. "It's an album that adults and kids will love," the singer stated. She married rodeo star Ty Murray in August.

Country singer Carrie Underwood, who was put into the spotlight on television talent show "American Idol," was another big winner of the evening. She received three People's Choice Awards for favorite female singer, country song "Last Name," and star under 35 years-old. Along with her, top winners in music included Kid Rock for favorite rock song "All Summer Long," Rascal Flatts for favorite group, Chris Brown for best male singer and Katy Perry for best pop song "I Kissed a Girl."

American Idol Season 6 winner Jordin Sparks is also working on a new album, and her greatest wish for the moment is a duet with Leona Lewis, whom she met at the American Music Awards. Looking back at the year that has just passed, she is happy to see that her duet with Chris Brown, “No Air,” came out and took off. She has a lot of things to be grateful for, among which singing at the Super Bowl or accompanying the president to Africa. The only thing she has to do from now on is to figure out a way to overcome her self in 2009.

The ceremony has a more casual atmosphere compared to TV's Emmy's or the film industry's Oscars, where black ties and ball gowns are mandatory.
