Bryony Shaw prompts BBC apology by swearing after Olympic windsurfing bronze

jueves, 21 de agosto de 2008 |

Expressing her delight at clinching a bronze in the dramatic windsurfing competition in Qingdao, Shaw told the nation "I am so f***ing happy."

The final race had begun with a false start and at one point Shaw touched with Spaniard Marina Alabau at one of the buoys.

But the 25-year-old recovered to finish second on the day, 12 seconds behind Italy's Alessandra Sensini. Her performace secured her a podium place in the overall competition

"I am just so happy," she said afterwards.

"It was such a hard race and I had such a hard week. It's the best thing in the world.

"I love my mum and dad so much, they are so supportive. And my boyfriend Greg. My coach Tom is such a legend. I am so f***ing happy.

"I just wanted to sail as fast as I could. Well done to the Chinese and Italian girls, they have raced so well this week. I am so happy to be among the medals. It's unreal, I am just so happy."

A spokesman for the BBC said: "We apologise for any offense caused earlier today when Bryony Shaw swore live on air having just won an Olympic bronze medal in the windsurfing event.

"Our reporter on the spot Rob Walker apologised immediately and Adrian Chiles apologised again when the footage cut back to the studio."
