The 59 year old singer, best known for her role in Grease, wed 49-year-old Australian entrepreneur John Easterling in a surprise ceremony at her home in Malibu, California, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Guests thought they were attending a Fourth of July Independence Day barbecue.
Newton John was almost forced to cancel the big day when a brush fire broke out in a nearby canyon.
But a source said: "John said they could wait a few days, or change the venue, but Olivia was determined that nothing was going to interfere with her special day."
The star - whose hits included You're The One That I Want with John Travolta - said she had gone through too much in her life already and she was not going to let anything interfere with her happiness.
The couple, who started dating last year, are both environmental campaigners.
Newton-John, who is British-born but grew up in Australia, has overcome her fair share of obstacles.
In 1992, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and a year later divorced Matt Lattanzi after he had an affair.
In 2005, she was devastated by the disappearance of her boyfriend of nine years, 48-year-old Patrick McDermott.
He went missing after going on an overnight fishing trip out of San Pedro, California.
