Girls Aloud to star in online soap

We usually hear of soap stars trying their hand at a singing career - not the other way around. But that's another mould Girls Aloud hope to break.

Yes, Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, and Nicola Roberts - will feature in forthcoming online soap The Secret World Of Sam King.

Created by record label Universal, the soap, initially exclusively for users of website Bebo, will also feature appearances from some of the music biz's biggest names.

Razorlight, Duffy, Amy Winehouse, Katherine Jenkins, The Feeling and Bloc Party are among the stars tipped to appear.

A source close to Girls Aloud told the Daily Star: "They're all really excited - it promises to be a lot of fun. They've made a lot of really cool videos and appeared in the St Trinian's film last year.

"But this is the first time they've had the chance to show off their acting talents. It's no secret that several of the girls harbour ambitions to get into acting and this will prove a great showcase."

The plot follows a post-room kid at the record label who has big ideas. He's like a young Simon Cowell - brilliant at spotting talent.

He secretly sets up his own office at the back of a stationery cupboard and manages to turn new bands into the next big thing. Every adventure finds the main characters interacting with artists who play themselves.

A Universal Records insider added: "Girls Aloud are one of our biggest acts, and, along with others, will be making a tongue-in-cheek debut in Sam King.

"The girls love stuff like Bebo and are really looking forward to filming."
