Boss has to pay up for remarks on employee's breasts

A woman sacked by a boss who made "humiliating" remarks about the size of her breasts was awarded more than 30,000 pounds in compensation, a press report said Saturday.

Julie-Ann Reed, 27, told an employment tribunal in Exeter, said she was so stressed by the behaviour of Gerald Probert she became ill with depression, the Daily Telegraph reported.

She alleged Probert told her: "You should either reduce the size of your breasts or get some new blouses."

She also said Probert failed to pay her on time. When she complained he told her that her boyfriend should look after her and pay the household bills.

When she objected to his remarks he sacked her from her job at an estate agent's in Exeter where she had worked for seven years and been promoted to a 20,000 pound a year valuer and director.

Probert, a racehorse owner, who has since closed his estate agency business, did not attend the tribunal. Reed claimed unfair dismissal, unpaid wages and sex discrimination.

Tribunal chairman Hugh Parker said that on at least five occasions in 2007, Probert made personal comments about Reed which she found humiliating.

The Telegraph said no reaction was available from Probert.
