A remix of Singin' in the Rain is set to hit the top spot in the UK singles chart after being used by Britain's Got Talent winner George Sampson.

Sampson won the ITV talent show after performing a breakdance routine to the remix of Gene Kelly's hit on Saturday.

The song, remixed by Manchester dance act Mint Royale, is number one in the midweek chart, based on Monday's sales.

Mint Royale originally released the track in 2005 and reached number 20 in the UK singles chart.

The group posted a message to 14-year-old Sampson on their website, saying: "We just wanted to say a huge congratulations to George Sampson for winning Britain's Got Talent.

"A massive 14 million people watched his winning dance to our very own Singin' In The Rain, earning him a big pot of money and a slot at this years Royal Variety Performance."

On hearing the news the track was set for number one, Sampson told the BBC: "It's unbelievable - it's great to help out. The guys that made the mix messaged me on MySpace saying 'hi' so it's just incredible."
