You'd Better Believe the New X Files Title!

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will reunite as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in the 20th Century Fox project “X-Files: I Want to Believe,” the newly confirmed title of the upcoming film.

Twentieth Century has confirmed that the title for its upcoming feature based on Chris Carter’s cult TV show will be “The X-Files: I Want to Believe,” reports Variety. The slogan was featured massively in the series and appeared on a poster adorning Mulder’s cluttered office.

Both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are reprising their roles as Mulder and Scully, as they did for the 1998 film adaptation “The X-Files: Fight the Future.”

The film opens July 25. Carter directed from a script he co-wrote with Frank Spotnitz.

Last month, the series’ creator was engagingly mysterious at the 25th annual William S. Paley Television Festival, where he revealed a trailer for the much-anticipated film but was less-than-generous with additional details.

When asked about the sequel’s title, Carter answered, “I know what I want it to be, but Fox has ideas of their own,” as quoted by the Hollywood Reporter. “I know what it should be.”

It has only been revealed that the film picks up six years after the end of the series and that it is not based on the alien mythology theme of the TV series but rather focuses on the standalone “Monster-of-the-Week” kind of episodes.

“It will not be a mythology movie, but it’s true to everything that’s come before,” Spotnitz assured the audience. “It’s true to Mulder and Scully, who they are and where they would be this point in their lives and all of the experiences that they’ve had.”

The finished trailer will debut in movie theaters along with Iron Man on May 2, a Fox spokesman told SCI FI Wire.
