Christina Ricci: New movie helped me find romance

Christina Ricci has gone from hog-face to chopper chick.

Last seen on the big screen with a pig snout in "Penelope," the 28-year-old indie princess has her old nose in her new movie "Speed Racer," out May 9. She plays Trixie, the plucky helicopter pilot and girlfriend of the title character.

The film version of the popular animated show about a race-car driver is by the Wachowski Brothers, the brains behind "The Matrix."

Ricci, in an interview with BlackBook, said the filmmakers created another weird, wonderful, wild universe - and helped her find romance. She reportedly met boyfriend Kick Gurry, an Australian actor who plays Sparky in the movie, on the set.

The film resembles "'Blade Runner,' but with Andy Warhol, Pop Art colors," Ricci said. "The racing effects are insane. It's crazy looking; it's like nothing I've ever seen before."

That's impressive, considering that she has seen plenty, since she broke through as Wednesday in "The Addams Family," and chalked up roles in diverse movies from "Monster" and "The Opposite of Sex" to "Sleepy Hollow" and "Black Snake Moan."

Despite her high-profile work, she is very shy. "I get so nervous," she said. "I happen to be socially awkward and shy. I spent a lot of my time as an adult not going places."

Being stuck at home suits her, since she is a die-hard neatnik. "I'm a clean freak," she said. "I get really excited when things are clean, and I love sorting things. I love folding laundry in front of the television."

One thing she doesn't love is her peers' passion for a certain role. "I mean, you see actresses, and their passion project is to play a stripper," she said. "It's just stupid. But now, the hottest thing to say is, I can work a pole!"
