After spending most of the day at her Studio City home, Britney Spears took her white Mercedes SL for a ride Saturday night, and as she was traveling south on the 101 Freeway, the pop singer, who was driving with an average speed according to onlookers, rear ended another car.
According to California Highway Patrol officer Patrick Kimball, the mishap occurred at around 8:20 p.m. on the eastbound Ventura Freeway just east of the 405 freeway.
"Nobody was injured," Kimball was quoted by E!Online as saying, and no tickets issued either.
"She failed to notice that the vehicle in front of her had come to a complete stop. She attempted to brake but failed to stop her vehicle prior to colliding with a 2006 Nissan," Kimball explained. As a result of the domino-like collision, the Nissan, which was driven by a man who had no passengers, was pushed into a third vehicle, the driver of which "did not observe any damages."
Police officers and firemen swarmed the scene blocking the traffic on both sides of the freeway temporarily. The 26-year-old singer was taken to a nearby fire station for a breathalyzer test, but did not appear to be intoxicated. The paramedics had already arrived at the fire station.
Just hours after the fender bender, a very relaxed and smiling Britney, who showed off a new hairdo on Friday, was spotted by X17 photographers having dinner with her mother. When asked about the accident, the singer reportedly said she was "okay" dismissing the incident as "nothing."
However, Britney is no stranger to driving offenses, and although she has never been arrested for DUI, which is one of the most popular driving offenses among celebrities, Britney was charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run stemming from an August 2007 incident when she smashed her car into another vehicle in a parking lot. The charge was dismissed as soon as the singer paid for the damages to the car's owner.
Another misdemeanor count of driving without a valid California license in connection with the same incident was not dismissed, and Britney pleaded not guilty in November 2007. She later obtained a temporary California license.
Since the incident, Britney has been placed under a conservatorship, headed up by her father, Jamie Spears, following her second hospitalization earlier this year. Over the past months, the singer's life and career have really taken a positive turn.
