He's not JFK's son, Jack Worthington's family tells U.S. magazine

The family of Jack R. Worthington, Jr., told Vanity Fair magazine Friday that his claims of being the illegitimate son of John F. Kennedy are "unequivocally false."

Worthington's family issued the following denial of his claims: "It is our understanding that Jack R. Worthington, Jr. has made the statement that he is the son of John F. Kennedy and that his mother, Mary Evelyn Worthington, was introduced to President Kennedy by Lyndon B. Johnson.

"It is the position of the family that the above statements are unequivocally false and have been fabricated by Jack R. Worthington, Jr. for reasons unknown to his family.

"Mary Evelyn Worthington has never met John F. Kennedy nor any other member of the Kennedy family. Further, Mary Evelyn Worthington has never met Lyndon B. Johnson. Jack R. Worthington, Jr. is the natural born son of Jack R. Worthington, Sr. and Mary Evelyn Worthington. Mary Evelyn Worthington has never had any conversation with Jack R. Worthington, Jr. concerning this subject."

Worthington's lawyer, Douglas Caddy, went to the U.S. magazine in October 2006 saying he represented a man who was introduced to JFK by Lyndon B. Johnson.

Worthington, Jr. -- a businessman with ties to Houston, Texas, who now lives in Saanich, B.C. -- claimed his mother told him he was the murdered U.S. president's son for the first time in August 2006, when he asked her if he was at risk from a genetic disorder that was killing the man he assumed was his biological father.

Vanity Fair reporter David Friend pursued the story from numerous angles for more than a year. It was only this month, however, that Worthington's claims became public in the Vancouver media.

The story of the "lost son of Camelot" became an international sensation.

Friend's detailed account of trying to pursue Worthington's paternity claim is at www.vanityfair.com.
