Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko (Hitman) has been cast as the female lead opposite Daniel Craig's 007 in the upcoming 22nd James Bond movie, which kicked off production in London on Jan. 7.
The announcement came from producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions Ltd., Sony Pictures Entertainment and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios on Jan. 7.
"Olga Kurylenko will play the dangerously alluring Camille, who challenges Bond and helps him come to terms with the emotional consequences of Vesper's betrayal," Wilson and Broccoli said in a joint statement, referring to the character of Vesper Lynd (Eva Green) from the previous film, Casino Royale.
Kurylenko, a former model, recently starred opposite Timothy Olyphant in Hitman and alongside Elijah Wood in Paris, je t'aime.
Kurylenko joins a cast that includes Craig, returning co-star Judi Dench and new cast members Mathieu Amalric (as 007's nemesis) and Gemma Arterton, who will play the role of MI6 agent Fields.
The cast also includes Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter and Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis.
Marc Forster directs the as-yet-untitled sequel from a screenplay by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Paul Haggis.
