Bif Naked Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

Canadian rocker Bif Naked has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

the 36-year-old announced the devastating news on the radio show The Strambo Show with George Stroumboulopoulos Sunday night.

She was diagnosed two weeks ago and will be going in for surgery this week.

"She's getting some extensive surgery, a lumpectomy, and they're going into her lymph nodes in one arm," her manager, Peter Karroll, told the Globe and Mail. "The cancer is an aggressive form."

Bif says she is straight edge, meaning she does not drink, smoke or do drugs. She also follows a vegan diet.

She said she wanted to talk about her cancer to bring awareness and encourage other women to give themselves regular breast examinations.

"I'm glad it's me and not my mom," she said on the show. "I'm glad it's me and not my sister; I'm glad it's me and not any of my friends. I am ready for the fight."

"It is important for everyone to understand that cancer is non discriminatory and even those in great health can be subject to cancer as a diagnosis," the singer adds. "I urge all women at every age to self-examine and go for scheduled mammograms. Early detection is the best tool in the fight against cancer."
