A New York City eye doctor has been fined $1,000 for repeatedly filing lawsuits on claims he has lost against Scottish actor Sean Connery.
The legal battle concerns a Manhattan townhouse Connery and his family share with Dr. Burton Sultan and his kin, the New York Post reported.
The Sultans claim the Connerys and their workers caused leaks and other damage to the building, while the Connerys contend the Sultans are preventing them from completing necessary repair work on the townhouse's roof, which they argue creates unsafe living conditions and higher repair costs.
In a decision made public Wednesday, Manhattan Supreme Justice Marcy Friedman fined Sultan, but also admonished Connery for his "blunderbuss" court attacks on the eye doctor.
Sultan and Connery have each filed numerous lawsuits against the other, the Post said.
"Regrettably, both parties to this dispute have engaged in a 'slash and
burn' litigation strategy," Friedman wrote in the decision, in which she dismisses most of the Sultan family's claims against the Connery family and several contractors who have worked on the building.
The judge's decision prevents both parties from filing any more lawsuits without her permission.
