The Welsh singer at the centre of a television love triangle has been voted off reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews left the Australian jungle last night to find the evicted actor she had flirted with throughout the show was not there to greet her.

Marc Bannerman, who had a long-term girlfriend when he entered the jungle, was expected to fly to Australia to meet Matthews when she was voted off the show. However, after a week of turmoil, in which his partner actress Sarah Matravers left him and sold a damning story to a tabloid, Bannerman decided to remain in the UK.

This morning, Matthews told GMTV she was “surprised” Bannerman was not there to meet her when she emerged from 19 days in the jungle.

Speaking from Queensland, she told interviewer Kate Garraway: “I was a little surprised because I had a letter saying that he might come and greet me. But actually, I think it’s probably a very good idea. Things in the jungle are so intense, your emotions are really raw and I really just want to relax, see to my kids who are amazing and gorgeous and get home safely and take things real slow.”

Asked if she wanted to see Bannerman, the singer responded: “Yeah, definitely”.

Matthews went on to defend her relationship with the former EastEnders actor: “Well first of all we’re 11 people in a really intense situation. In all innocence, we were getting on really well as friends - it was me, Anna, Mark. He was friendly to everybody, he was generous, wanted to help everybody out. And the moment when our friendship was getting a little bit intense, we pulled back a little because we didn’t want hurt anybody.”

Bannerman, who was evicted a week ago, had earlier written to the singer telling her he would come back to Australia if she wanted him to.

"There are many problems in London and I've had to go back to try and sort them out - but I may well return to greet you when you come out, if that is your wish. Marc," he wrote.

She responded: "I'd love him to come out if that's what he thinks is a good idea, because he knows all the answers now."

There are now only three contestants left in the jungle. Actor Christopher Biggins, former boyband Jason “J” Brown and the woman who claims to have been the world’s first supermodel - Janice Dickinson, are competing to win tonight’s final.
