Judge allows sleepovers for Britney and kids

Wearing jeans, sunglasses and carrying a can of Coke, Britney Spears waltzed into court five hours late Thursday and got what she wanted — overnight visits with her kids.

Apparently the judge was impressed with her decision to finally show up and fight for little Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2.

Judge Scott Gordon, who earlier deemed Spears a "habitual, frequent and continuous" drug and alcohol abuser, agreed to grant her one overnight visit per week so long as a court-approved monitor is present the entire time.

"Time with dad and mom is extremely important," he said at the morning hearing, which lasted 45 minutes, adding: "At the same time, if a person is dealing with challenges -- substance issues and emotional issues -- this can absolutely affect the children and have a devastating effect."

Spears offered only "no comment" as she left the hearing escorted by a small army of Sheriff's deputies.

The guards took her to a secure loading dock where she'd been allowed to park her white Mercedes behind closed doors after she refused to exit her vehicle in the presence of a court-approved photographer.

The solid gates of the loading dock opened 10 minutes later, and Spears was forced to drive haltingly through the crush of paparazzi that swarmed her at the first red light.

The pop star, who's been ordered by the court to take semi-weekly drug tests, had been a no-show five hours earlier at the initial "emergency" meeting requested by her lawyers to revisit her daytime-only visitation order.

Attorney Anne Kiley appeared on her behalf and acknowledged that Spears got off to a rocky start with the judge's demands because of "legitimate trust issues" with assorted advisers. She said the issues had been worked out and the court-ordered drug tests were on track.

"No tests results have been forwarded to the court," the judge corrected her. Kiley persisted.

"We're dealing with a 2-year-old and a 1 year old child, and their schedule was abruptly disrupted last week," Kiley argued, adding that the daytime-only visitation plan required the kids to be rousted from their regular naps at 3 p.m. "We do think it's an emergency for them not to have overnights. [Developmentally], we all know what hard-wiring is going on now."

Judge Gordon wasn't persuaded and suggested the two sides hammer out a new agreement on their own.

Spears' ex-hubby Kevin Federline, who wasn't in court, apparently agreed to throw Spears a bone.

"[Kevin Federline] agreed voluntarily to increase — slightly increase — the time allotted to [Spears] provided that certain condition were in place," K-Fed's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan said after the follow-up court hearing. "Mr. Federline has always been willing to jointly parent the children."

So what did Britney do after court?
