Hit-and-run charge against Britney Spears dropped

Britney Spears finally put her hit-and-run charge in the rearview mirror.

A judge kicked the misdemeanor count to the curb Thursday after the pop star had settled with Kim Robard-Rifkin, owner of the 1999 Mercedes Spears hit in a San Fernando Valley parking lot last August.

Spears was photographed checking for damage on her car before speeding off.

Robard-Rifkin accepted $1,000 to cover damages to her vehicle, Spears' lawyer Michael Flanagan said.

"[She] is very sympathetic toward Britney and hopes the best for her," Flanagan told People magazine.

Spears still faces a charge of driving without a license, to which Flanagan entered a plea of "not guilty" on Spears' behalf.

Outside court, Flanagan said the city had offered Spears a plea deal on the license charge.

A spokesman for the city attorney's office said no deal has been reached.

The maximum penalty is a year in jail, but first offenders usually get probation.

The "Gimme More" singer has a court date today in her custody fight with ex-hubby Kevin Federline.
