The fresh-faced young crew of the Starship Enterprise know who they'll be facing in the upcoming "Star Trek" reboot -- "Munich" star Eric Bana.
According to the industry trade papers, J.J. Abrams has cast Bana as the villainous Nero in Paramount's new "Star Trek," set for a Christmas 2008 release.
Nobody knows much about Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci's "Star Trek" script, but it's believed to be something of an origin story focusing on an early adventure for the Enterprise team. Director Abrams has already cast Zachary Quinto ("Heroes") as Young Spock, Zoe Saldana as Young Uhura and Anton Yelchin ("Huff") as Young Chekov.
Several key roles, including Young Kirk and Young Scotty have yet to be cast, with Mike Vogel and Chris Pine the most recently rumored names for Kirk. With unproven talent in the main roles, Abrams had been expected to cast bigger names as the main adversary (the mysterious Nero) and as the Federation captain.
Most recently seen in the summer dud "Lucky You," Bana has already completed work on "The Other Boleyn Girl" and begun production on "The Time Traveler's Wife" with Rachel McAdams.
