The duo will produce a series with HBO, untitled for now, and it will be written by The Bourne Ultimatum co-writer Scott Burns. The subject matter hits close to the couples’ own experiences, as it will cover the internal politics of an international aid organization, the lives of humanitarian workers in danger zones, and the people they assist.
Jolie, Pitt, and Burns, who co-produced Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth, are the series’ executive producers.
The couple launched the Jolie-Pitt Foundation a year ago and have donated to many international aid organizations, including $1 million to both Doctors Without Borders and Global Action for Children.
Jolie returns to HBO for the first time since the biopic Gia, which earned the actress a Golden Globe award, a SAG award, and an Emmy nomination.
The new HBO project will be the second active one for Pitt, who is executive producing an HBO/National Geographic project Undaunted Courage with Edward Norton, currently in development. It will cover the Lewis and Clark exploration of the early 1800s.
